This is a fine line that is blurred in many ways.
I got arrested 2 days ago and spent 5 hrs in a holding cell, got put in hand cuffs, finger printed, mug shots and charged with a ticket and court date all for selling my artwork legally with my tax id number.
I am not a criminal and I was in the van with people who were selling fake handbags and fake sheetrock walls.
i was not violating a trademark or conning anybody, yet i was treated in the same way.
Mayor Bloomberg is also trying to get the artists out of the parks for reasons that are obvious. was take up space for free and he wants to rent it out for thousands of dollars a day to marketing campaigns and cupcake trucks. We have gotten our 2nd Injunction and Restraining order against Bloomberg’s law in January- may. Then we go to court again.
This is an injustice and new yorker have to know is happening or one day they will turn around and the artists and everything grassroots will be gone. They’ll see are the new corporate face of nyc parks and wonder….how did this happen?

“Arting Outside The Canvas”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 17, 2010

ASTORIA, NY- November 17, 2010- On Friday November 19, 2010, from 6 PM to midnight the Wonderland Artist Collective will host a Multi Media Gallery Exhibition featuring 14 artists including Andriana Santiago.

In this exhibition, Andriana takes her artwork beyond the canvas and to the walls and ceilings of her 12 ft x 8 ft bedroom. The room was arted to enhance the perspective of movement through color and light, and transport the mind to a new and unique world of art. Moving beyond sight to stimulate all the senses, this exhibit is meant to be interacted with–and to be lived.

Andriana was an artist-in-residence at Wonderland Artist Collective during the creation of “Arting Outside The Canvas”. Now that the space is in transition, this is the last time Andriana’s room will be displayed for public viewing, and it will be painted back to white.

Admission to the Wonderland Gallery Event is a $5 donation to help fund Wonderland’s Art Jam, an open studio for artists every Wednesday night from 8-10PM. Wonderland Collective is located at 3801 23rd Ave, Queens, NY 11105.

About Andriana Santiago

Andriana Santiago is a musician with an unconventional take on art. Using the movement of music to create color and shape, she expands her work beyond traditional mediums. It’s her interpretation of music in concrete form. Much of her work revolves around the recycling and reviving of everyday objects to create both interactive and functional art.

An avid street artist, she can often be found drawing inspiration from her local community. Known for her collection of discarded vinyl records made into wearable art, these pieces are sculpted into little jems for custom pendants, broaches, rings, clothing, shoes, accessories, guitars, and more.
