Back to my NYC. The city full of opportunities and exhaust smelling bus farts.

i’ve been writing and demoing alot of songs for my full length album and soo i’m be in LA again working with one of my favorite producers and dear friend, Kelson Berkus. YIPPPY!

FLORIDA ADVENTURES!

logo

it began over a month ago.
i came to FL to get juried in Key west to sell me artwork.
i stayed with my friend and ex roomie kayti bunny (bunnyhoops.com).
i made it to the keys by 10am on a monday the day before my departure, made my artwork live in front of the committee, then by 3pm they called me to tell me the great news! i’d gotten chosen to sell my artwork at the Sunset Celebration in Mallory Square Key West!
so i had to come back within 30 days to solidify my spot for the future, so whenever i wanted to come to the keys.
so 3 weeks later i returned to key west. This time i chose to couch surf on a boat.
best decision ever! i stayed with dustin. he was welcoming and very sweet.
while living on a boat for a week, my love and passion for being on the water grew into a feeling of love and desire i’d never even knew existing.
Snorkeling for the 1st time in my life left me obsessed with the element of water. i’d often get distracted from watching the fish & coral to stare at small slow moving particles. when water is so still its move and looks like gel.
even riding the dingy fascinates me… how it rides on the surface as the water. oh! and riding a dingy at night is even more magical bc then the moonlight shines on the still water and i feel like i’m in a mistical fantasy land. Earth is soooooooo fascinating. we live in such a miracle to almost unreal.
Although Ive been traveling to FL to sell me artwork, I’ve been here with my heart filled with the most overwhelming insatiable desire to enjoy as much as i can of everything FL’s nature experience has to offer.
i am devistated by what’s happening in the GULF. i’ve never been so unsure and sad about the future of the planet as i am now. so many of us know that the worst is yet to come when you hear about Oil Rain. so many of us urban folks who live in NYC desire to be close to the earth and grow food with permaculture methods, sleep outside, make our already artistic communitiees in sustanible ones… but we do our best with our roofdeck or window pane herbs and veggatables. to read articles about how if oil rain got into our food supplies North America could have a famine is soooooo real.
mostly all people i’ve encountered while at sea or around in general are in denial or do not talk about it.
SO BACK TO MY STORY!
i got chosen to sell my artwork in Key west, so i went back within the 30 days then vending for 4 days during my 6 day stay in Key West.
I had such a beautiful experience selling my artwork in MAllory Square. the tourists where so sweet and the talent was so much fun to watch! I had a jewelry makers Daughter named Kayla keep me company and make me laugh. I sold the flat vinyl records that I art on both sides (to hang on your wall or ceiling with clear string) and fan chain pulls that i also arted from vinyl. :)
in these 6 days i lived on a boat docked at a Marina. We took the dingy past the deep bay area into this 3 foot area. i put on my snorkeling goggles and breathing tube and jumped off the dingy. i tried to avoid stepping on the ground and so i floated. i was like an airplane. i had an arial view of all these amazing sea vegetation and cute fish. it was like i was looking down on a mini earth. the huge sponges, house and the plants, trees. it was like earth above water, only with fish floating around. plants are beautiful purple & neon green. uniquely textured, with repeated patterns and layers of perfectly formed designs that dances around itself and the whole scenery as if forming the most satisfying eye song ever to be naturally born into existence by simply just being itself in it’s purest form.
we floated there for a lotta bit. and i love every seconds of it. dustin used these floating tubes we got at the dollar store and proclaimed his fondness for them often.
i came back to nyc on a saturday.
as i read more and more about the oil spill i knew it was tme for me to make another trip. i love FLORIDA. i love tropical places. we are so blessed as americans to have a piece of paradise fo closely connected to us… only a 2 hr $100 plane ride from nyc. perfect. but now that’s in jepordy.
This time on june 22 when i arrived at key west i couch surfed on a boat that was not docked.
this time a smaller boat. you had to take a dingy in and out of land and there wasnt really a bathroom on the boat or running water. but whatever. i dont carrre!!! im on a boat!!! i met up with Jon which is super awesome too! and he proceeded to warn me again about the boats not so perfect conditions. i got to the boat and it was perfect. i knew exactly where id be sleeping. outside on the bench!
that night i lied there bathed in beauty as the cool wind whispered and brushed up against my skin. staring up at the star filled sky the clouds were fast moving past an almost full moon. the rippling water glimmered like diamonds from the bright moonlight. seamless. there is no beginning or end to where the earth and i begin and end. seamless. a pure majestic beauty. life. everything was so alive and breathing. the boat moved with the small waves…. the sky breathes with the moving clouds. the night birds flew and the sunrise came. magic.

after spending 2 days on the boat i met some friends that were about to sail to miami! id been talking about how i wanted to sail and how exciting it would be so they offered to take me along for a short 1st time sailing trip. i thought and thought about it… then said, OK!
i grabbed a few things and 2 hours later i was out at sea surrounded by nothing but water!!!!!!!
eventually i got seasick! but i have tot ell you, i had THE BEST puking experience ever!!!! haha bc i had to puke on the back of the boat and as i held on and let it loose it was the most beautiful water id ever seeeeeeeen. bright BRIGHT blue ocean water. so i layed there enjoying the view and felt then felt amazing…. but ONLY is i didnt sit up! at least it ws comforting to know that i could feel great if i layed down. so that’s what i did! the WHOLE TRIP! and it turned out to be GREAT! i would sit up off and on throughout the day and change laying positions around the boat, so i got some pretty cool points of view.
Captain of this beautiful 45 foot sail boat is Alvaro. He’s from Argentina and has been sailing and living around the Caribbean for the past 1.5 yrs. He’s very fond of cuba and loves argentina and his mama’s home cookin, hates salt water in the boat (messes things up) and has a great bachata collection. we listened to john mayor and this amazing argentinean reggae band for hours as he sang along.
Excitment ensued he announced we were going at 9.7 knots, 10.1 knots! and eventually once we changed course and got into the gulf stream we hit a record 11knots!
we left thursday round 5pm. we arrived friday at 8pm. we were expecting to arrive sat morning, then friday later night, then 11pm, then boom, we were here!!!!
i was super happy to be able to sit up and get something in my stomach!!!! yummmmmm
my boat friends had a wedding to attend so i met up with my friend Amanda that i met through kayti bunny last time i was in hollywood fl!
we stayed at amy’s (amanda’s friends) in south beach then went to the beach the next day.
where am i now? at amy’s using the interwebsss for the 1st time in ages! :)
i’m heading back to key west tomorrow (tues) by bus. i’ll sell my art all week then head back to miami to enjoy some more wave beach action!!!!!
i want to do some more snorkeling around some other keys. and deffffffff try jet skiiing!!!
i have lots of photos i upload from my phone to facebook.
If we are not friends, let’s be!

in this piece i was experimenting with being minimalisticalllll. after spray painting the canvas silver I almost wanted to leave it untouched. i felt some neon texture in the shapes of circles and a movement that could happen with the effect of an environment, hence the feathers, that move with the slightest bit of wind. The grid also creates some sort of orderly movement that satisfied my need for that non-abstract feeling i was feeling… along with the colorful feather…. this piece is like an acoustic dance song, with only few words. :D
